Club-tailed dragonfly Gomphus vulgatissimus

Adults of this species were first recorded in the county in June 1997 on the River Avon at Cleve Prior Mill. This was the second great find of the 1990s. In the following year emergence of the species was observed further upstream at Marlcliff.

In 2002 breeding has been proved up to Welford-on-Avon and two sightings have been made of adults on the Arrow near Broom. The species can be expected to continue its progress up the Avon and possibly breeding will be proved on some tributaries.
