Warwickshire Dragonfly Group Meetings and Activities

The indoor meeting for 2008 will be held in March. Details will be posted soon.

There are four field meetings this year. At the Trust's request, there will be larvae and adult identification workshops at Brandon Marsh on 5^th April and 5^th July respectively.

Our out of county meeting is at Eckington Bridge in Worcestershire on 28 June. Our aim is to find the Scarce Chaser (the next new species to reach Warwickshire?). Those who were on our meeting there in 2005 will remember our lack of success in finding the species because of the poor weather. Kay and I visited Eckington last year, the river was very high and the car park partially flooded, and we were rewarded with many sighting of Scarce Chaser. May be in 2008 we will be lucky again.

The last field meeting on 13 July is at Middleton Lakes, the recently acquired RSBP reserve on the Warwickshire/Staffordshire border. This is an opportunity to survey (for the first time) the dragonflies at the new reserve which is not yet open to the general public. Do not miss it.

Aim	Larvae identification workshop. Indoor and outdoor sessions to be held at the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust Nature Centre. There will be a charge of £6.50 payable to Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to cover costs and to contribute to equipment for recording.

Aim	Meetings 2007 The target species is Scarce Chaser, a recent colonist of the Avon, which is extending its range up the river. Expect to move further up the river later in the day to a more recently colonised site.
